Q: How does ER TAPE/Self Fusing Silicone Tape work?
A: ER TAPE is a self-fusing silicone rubber tape. Ingredients in the silicone cause it to permanently bond to itself when stretched or forced together.
Q: How long does it take ER TAPE to fuse together?
A: The tighter you stretch ER TAPE, the quicker it bonds. In most cases, ER TAPE bonds in seconds and takes a minute or two to become permanent. Because of our high quality control and superior ingredients, ER TAPE is the fastest bonding self-fusing silicone on the market today. 24 hours is often recommended for superior curing- the application of heat can also speed up the curing process.
Q: What is the shelf life? How do I store ER TAPE?
A: For the longest shelf life, it should be kept at room temperature and away from direct light or heat. ER TAPE has lasted many of our customers for many years.
Q: How much ER TAPE should I use?
A: When overlapping ER TAPE by one-half, as directed, you will automatically be left with a “double wrap.” This is sufficient for most weatherproofing applications such as electrical wiring. However, when sealing leaks, the more you use, the stronger the seal will be. Typically 3 to 5 layers thick and 3 to 5 inches to both sides of a damaged hose should repair most leaks. Additional layers may be necessary.
Q: Does the surface of my project have to be clean?
A: No. Removing as much debris as possible is never a bad idea though. ER TAPE does not stick to the surface of a project, and therefore it does not matter whether the surface is clean or dirty. As long as you can overlap ER TAPE onto itself, it will work, even if the surface is wet, dirty, or oily. You should avoid getting dirt or oil between the layers, however, as this will interfere with the bonding surface.
Q: Will ER TAPE ever come unraveled?
A: As long as you have stretched ER TAPE and followed the directions properly- NO.
Q: How can I remove ER TAPE?
A: ER TAPE can be cut with scissors or any utility knife. Best of all, it will never leave any sticky residue behind like traditional adhesive tapes!
Q: What is the difference between ER TAPE and other silicone tapes?
A: ER TAPE is the highest quality available on the market today and comes DIRECT from the Manufacturer in Pembroke Park, FL. Only the highest quality ingredients are used. ER TAPE significantly exceeds the military specification set forth for silicone tape.
Q: Can I get ER TAPE in different widths, thicknesses or colors?
A: We often have various colors and sizes in stock – inquire for your needs. Sometimes a color requires a custom batch and therefore can only be done in commercial quantities only. Each order is custom made. Please call us to discuss your company’s needs.
Q: Can I get a better price than the internet price?
A: For larger quantities/bulk pricing/private label opportunities and more, please contact us! We also often list spare/excess rolls on ebay- be sure to find ER-TAPE on ebay!
